Single alternative inspection location (SAIL) From 1 October 2009 companies must keep all of their statutory registers at either their registered office or a Single Alternative Inspection Location (SAIL) based in England or Wales. All forms previously filed at Companies House regarding the location for inspection of the Register of Members are no longer valid and the company’s records are deemed to be held at the company’s registered office address. If a company wishes to hold any of its records at a location different from the registered office, for example at the company secretary’s office if the registered office is elsewhere, a SAIL form must be filed at Companies House as soon as possible after 1 October. Only one alternative inspection address is permitted and all the statutory registers of a single type must be kept together at either the SAIL or registered office.
